In the Beginning

Mind and Love was created on January 3rd, 2019; the day before I had a varicocelectomy, a surgery that ties off veins in the testicles and restores…..,well, I don’t remember, as I always passed out at this moment in the explanation.  Since my world was ending one way or another, I decided this would be a good time to share my thoughts and feelings with the world.  What followed was one of the most productive days of my life.  And since it was so much fun, I have continued blogging in the months following that fateful day; when the surgeon worked his magic to induce my sperm into millions of Michael Phelpses.  Thanks, Doc!

Just after the Beginning

Initially, I thought my blog would focus on issues of midlife transitions, but it has evolved to become a place where I share whatever is on my mind; from the deeply personal to the carefree takes on love and relationships.  The transformation is part of the joy; not knowing the destination of my blog or a post.  I treasure the discovery; the wandering around in the dark, stumbling to find the light that’s hinted by the spark of an idea.

It’s very easy to lose perspective. There is the allure of more views and monetization, as well as the dubious trap of comparing your blog to others; perhaps your mood and self-esteem determined by the results of those comparisons.  If you are promoting your blog on social media, you will constantly be reminded of these landmarks and measuring sticks.  While it’s understandable to fall prey to this seductive bait, try to develop the mindfulness that allows reconnection with the initial impetus for your blog.  There is a reason why you started.  You garnered satisfaction from some parts of the creative process.  Remember them and use them to replace the thoughts that veer you off course.  Develop the awareness to replace the seductive sirens with the thoughts that accompanied your initial joy.  Remember and reconnect!
